You might have heard that good management is about listening more than talking. There is a lot of truth in this, but it’s not quite what people often seem to get from it. This works and is so important because it should drive you to action, not make you sit idly listening to the opinions of others. The point is that you should be actively listening out to whatever concerns or suggestions people have, but that your job is then to consider all of this and act on the direction that you feel is best. If you can do that, you will find that you are much better as a leader and that the people you are leading will appreciate your leadership all the more for it. If you feel that you might need a little practice with your listening skills, then make sure to get that practice, but the important thing is that you are going to do whatever you can to listen well and fully at all times, and to anyone who needs to be heard.
